What is Community Chaplaincy ?

 

Community Chaplaincy was established in Canada and has proved to work when all those involved in the criminal justice system work together,

 

 

Our Chaplain is Reverend Billy Mcfetridge who served his prison sentence during the Northern Ireland troubles. Whose story was told in “Full Pardon”

Our Mission Statement

 

Our mission is to provide a Christian Pastoral Presence  to former inmates and their families.  This is to be achieved by working in harmony with all the relevant government and community agencies in the area.  Our mission is to enhance their efforts, not to hinder them.

Depicts the hand of the community reaching for a hand extending through an open prison door.   Our Motto “Building Bridges With Love” underlines our main purpose which is to welcome former inmates and help them bridge the gap between prison and the community.

 

Our Objectives

 

1/ To provide confidential pastoral care to former inmates and their family members by:

·        Providing Counselling

·        Assisting them to establish links with their Church and community

Helping them find adequate housing and support.

 

2/ To promote Church and community awareness of the needs of ex-offenders, victims and their families and to work for reconciliation.

 

3/ To share with other agencies in the work of restoring justice, good will and peace to our society.
